Showing the Orange

In support of Attention Orange, I am turning my blog orange for the day.

You can show your support by wearing orange at tonight's Orange County Board of Education meeting. The meeting details are below:

What: Orange County Board of Education Regular Meeting
When: Monday, February 18, 2008 @ 7:00 pm
Where: Orange County Schools Central Office
200 King Street
Hillsborough, NC 27278

Agenda

While the meeting is scheduled to begin at 7:00, if you want a seat, you will need to be there early. Also, if you want to share your comments with the Board, you will need to sign up before the meeting begins.

I hope to see many of you there.

I just attended the School Board Meeting. The HES parents who spoke up did a wonderful job elaborating on the unfairness of the School Board's re-application plan. Seems like Mike Parker did not check with the NC Statutes to see if the process of reapplying was legal. The FAQ states that there is no appeals process if you do not get re-enrolled to HES.

Let's see: if I'm a lawyer, and my client (the School Board) was making all of the children of one school re-apply, wouldn't I have done my homework and check its legality? Not Mike Parker. The School Board PAYS Mike Parker, and the funds that the School Board uses comes from TAXPAYERS! We all should be enraged at Mike Parker, not just the Board.

The Board needs to drop the battle altogether. It seems that Ted, Susan, Debbie, and Dennis has allowed Liz Brown to lead them astray. It's time for these four members to break away from Liz. Show some leadership, Ted. Speak up, Susan. Have a heart, Debbie. Have a conscience, Dennis.

"Have a conscience, Dennis."

Maybe Dennis has one after resigning from the School Board. He finally did something that was for the best of HES.

I highly doubt that HES was on Dennis' mind when he resigned. This is peanuts compared to what he is facing.
