We're #8! We're #8!

According to the Durham Herald-Sun, the proposed (and abandoned) merger between Central and Hillsborough Elementary schools was the #8 news story for Orange County in 2007.

Our efforts to derail the runaway train of a myopically arrogant Board of Education even beat out John Edwards' presidential campaign (#10) on the Herald-Sun's list.

Had it not been for the work and vocal opposition of parents at both schools the Board planned to destroy, I am sure it would not have even made a ripple in the news ocean.

While the year is rapidly drawing to a close, the fight against this Board's tendency to ignore and try to hide those most impacted by its poor decision-making is far from over.

Let's hope that next year's Top 10 list includes a dramatic turnover of Orange County Board of Education members.

Rest for the next week, because the new year's work is about to begin.

My New Years Resolution...

I promise to stop making personal attacks on the School Board members and focus on the facts of this issue.

Who's with me?

Liz, is that you?

No. I am not Liz nor am I a liz supporter in any way, shape, or form. But I don't see how the constant personal attacks on the board members are productive our cause. I look to this site for solutions and to be kept up to date on the issues, not to read the latest personal attack on the board. This can be such a great resourse to all of who care about the children of OCS and I am just getting tired of reading all the name calling and accusation tossing.

FYI--we were not the one's who started the personal attacks. We were the ones who were told that we were elitists, and that our school should be closed. We were the ones who were told that we were too white and too non-socioeconomically disadvantaged.

In the future, please include ALL the facts concerning the school board. We need to keep the Board ACCOUNTABLE for their actions (inactions). When the Board tries to screw over HES families, they will have to deal with the consequences.

It doesn't matter who started the name calling... It's simply not productive!

I totally agree with you. It's not time to make self-righteous promises, but it is time to educate everyone that the School Board is inept.

New slogan "It will be great--that LIZ will be out in 0 8!!"
