Are we there yet?

According to the HES PTA, Orange County Board of Education members will attend the group's August 28th meeting to answer parents' questions about the proposed HES/CES merger.

Maybe someone should have told the Board.

They seem to think they aren't visiting the two schools' PTA meetings until September.

This message is posted to the Orange County Schools website:

"The Board of Education will hold meetings on Thursday, September 6, 2007 and Thursday, September 13, 2007 at 7:00 p.m. to provide information and gather input from parents about the merger of Central Elementary and Hillsborough Elementary Schools. The specific location of the meetings will be announced at a later date. Board members will also be present at the September PTA meetings for both Central and Hillsborough Elementary."

If they have so much trouble getting the little things right, is it any wonder so many people have so little trust that this group can get the big things right?

How many board members do you think will attend the meeting on August 28th? If a majority of the members attend, they will have a quorum and must advertise a public meeting. Want to take bets? Al and Anne will show up to let HES know "they've got our back" - yeah, right. Look where that's gotten us in the past eight months.

The board members (if they show up) are not part of a PTA meeting. This is a forum sponsored by the HES PTA. Please do not refer to it as a PTA meeting.

The district is calling it a PTA meeting.

"The district" is refering to the September meeting about the CE/HES merger. Word is the August 28 meeting is a little different from the "official" meeting advertised on the OCS website. The Aug. 28 meeting has not been advertised on the OCS website as of yet.

I would really like to know how many applications to HES form the parents atCentral have sat on the desk of the principal over the years that did not get accepted? By the numbers shown this year of students opting out of central , I doubt the number is high. So Why the attack on us? All so you can make your numbers look good on paper or is it so Shirley can pull a historically failing school out of Title 1 by mixing these two groups of children? What Does thAt do for the education of the students at Central? Nada zilch zero nunda. These parents at central need to rool upo thjeir sleeves and be involved in their children'seducation.
