Wanna play?

While, by virtue of his position as Chairman, Dennis Whitling is the face of the school merger debacle, the single most divisive player in this mess has been conspicuously absent of late - Liz Brown.

Liz has not been seen at public Board functions in over two months. She has been absent from the Board's regular meetings on July 9th, July 19th, August 6th, and August 20th, nor was she at the Board's "question and evasion session" at HES this past Tuesday. In fact, I can find no evidence of her existence since the Board met on June 18th.

Has the Board notified the authorities, or the media? Surely, they would be interested in the disappearance of an affluent, white woman - Nancy Grace would be all over it.

Where could Liz be?
  • Perhaps she has followed the example set by the parents of 83 children in Orange County and made the choice to opt out of a bad situation. We should be so lucky.
  • Maybe $100 a month isn't enough to make attending Board meetings worth her while. At least that is a reason I can understand. Why show up and deal with those pesky parents when you are getting paid either way?
  • Perhaps after using her position on the Board to speed up the building of a softball field at her child's school, she figures her work is done.
  • Maybe Board meetings conflict with her Reading & Discussion group at Internationalist Books. Afterall, those discussions are probably more interesting.

Who knows?

In an effort to find some humor in this blatant neglect of her responsibilities to the children of Orange County, I would like to start a game akin to "Where's Waldo?" - let's call it "Where's Liz?"

Here is a link to a satellite Map of Orange County. See if you can find Liz, and report back where you think she might be.

Hey Liz, come out, come out, wherever you are!

Part right. This is the plan Caraway forwarded on February 28 of this year. Dennis is just continuing to carry her water.

In fact, the June 18th minutes reveal Liz first made the motion to accept Dennis'/Shirley's plan but nobody would second it. Only when Ted made the same motion minutes later did it get seconded and passed with only Al voting against it.

Also see May 21st for Liz successfully altering the pay for board members from 50 bucks per attended meeting to 100 bucks per month regardless of attendence.

Now she is Missing-In-Action and still collecting as much as the rest of the board. At least they show up and maybe, just maybe, some of them are listening and waiting for Shirley to leave and release Dennis'. . . mind!

I love it when people pay enough attention to what I write that they are able to correct my mistakes.

Thank you for pointing out the change in Board compensation. I will change my posting accordingly.

Considering Liz's position on the lack of school funding, can we count on her to return the $200 she got paid for missing two months worth of meetings? After all, the FFICS-Pro-Merger-ROB-CH queen shouldn't be fleecing the school system of it's precious dollars. Right?

CAPTION----LIZ BROWN LANDS A LARGE STARTING ROLE IN THE NEW RENDITION OF THE WIZARD OF OZ

Yes, it is true! Our Liz is going to be a star in the new release of the Wizard of Oz. She will play the scarecrow, with the famous line "If I only had a brain!!".

The reviews are flattering--people cannot believe what a talented actress our Liz is. One comment was "she performs the role so well, it looks like she's not even acting!!!"

Dr. Carraway, however, deceived the Orange County families about her retirement. She too wanted to be an actress in the production. Her line was something like this: "I'll get you, my pretty, and your little dog too!!!"

Maybe Liz is having second thoughts about the merger. She's probably separating herself from this ugly situation. She's allowed to change her mind.

Give her credit about being truthful. She has let it be known from the start that she wanted to close HES. At least she is not talking out of both sides of her mouth. She wants to take the correct action and does not have a hidden agenda. She wants to help CES, as she's made it transparent to everyone.

Liz Brown has never been truthful. Never. When she ran for School Board in 2004, she posted signs around HES claiming to be a big supporter of HES. Today she advocates closing HES.

Please explain how Liz Brown doesn't talk out of both sides of her mouth. How does one know when Liz is lying? Its simple. Her lips are moving.

Liz never stated that she was a "big supporter of HES". Please provide proof of this. Liz would never support a school that takes away from the other six elementary schools. Liz is a reliable voice for all of our kids, and not a select wealthy few.

Liz is not a reliable voice for any of our kids as long as she is absent from board meetings and refuses to listen to parents regardless of where the kids go to school.

Liz stood at HES, during carpool, holding a sign that said something akin to: Liz Brown supports year round education - vote Liz Brown. That was the general message. It was a last ditch effort to get votes. I think the animosity toward her came from her inane idea to close HES. This idea is ludicrous considering the major growth that is occurring. Furthermore, for those of us who attended the meetings, Liz Brown did not miss a single opportunity to take a jab at HES. She has this "beat a dead horse" style of going on and on about the same point when no one agrees. Her sarcastic comments about class size and the ratio of resources would sometimes include a childish smirk toward the audience. A "so there!" look. Her shameless "pork" for her child's own school was the last straw for me. They need a softball field - who cares that HES and Cameron Park don't have warm water in the bathrooms. Who cares that Cam. Pk. has a totally messed up HVAC system. I do love my friend's suggestion. Central Office needs to be the exact same temperature as Cam. Pk. Then maybe they would address their issues.

Stop re-writing history. Liz cares for the students, not the school itself.

Liz only cares about her own kids' school.

That is why she used her position to push through a softball field for Grady-Brown.

If, as she has claimed, her primary concern is the "resegregation of a southern school district", why isn't she pushing for something to be done about her kids school? Grady-Brown only has one-tenth of one percent more black students than HES - 11.2% vs. 11.1%.

She is a hypocrite, plain and simple.

Stop re-writing history? Like being pro-merger with Chapel Hill up until the day Liz decides to run for School Board, then she is anti-merger with Chapel Hill.

Come to think of it, is there anything Liz won't try to merge?

One thing Liz won't merge is her thought's with reality.
